Not sure what else to say but that sometimes in baseball everything that can possibly go wrong in a game, goes wrong. It happens.
My one issue is with BB starting the season content with such a young/unexperienced rotation + a guy with a history of injury issues. Only one guy could’ve been counted on to eat innings in this group (Eveland) and he’s currently struggling to do even that right now. The bullpen being overworked might be a consistent theme through the rest of the summer.
I think we just saw Eveland get passed by Gio (who looked pretty darn good).
Korach and Cotroneo were similarly effusive (Vince: “coming of age outing for Gio” / 74mk: “barf”), but I’m not convinced 4BB/1K/108 pitches in 5 innings against a hacktastic lineup is cause for celebration.
His line is definitely
PANTHERsabr NOT.I am not at all impressed with Gio (which is not to say he’s worse than Eveland…)
Not for celebration, but as someone who saw him get absolutely rocked in the bay bridge pre-season, it was good to see him doing well.
I’ll also excuse the bad ending somewhat since no one comes out of the pen expecting to go that deep.
I mean I think asking for three high leverage innings like Gio gave us is about all you can from any long reliever. Having to pitch with a “give up a run you lose” mentality changes things from a starter perspective. Also Gio is use to starting, getting ready at his own pace etc.
So do we sacrifice a bench spot (either Patterson or Rajai, IMO, but I don’t know who does or does not have options) in favour of having another reliever (I don’t know who, but we already have Russ Springer in the pen, so who cares?)?
But it doesn’t matter if Geren refuses to use said new reliever.
Also – I think Gio passed Eveland too. It wasn’t the prettiest outing (and a whole lot of pitches) but 5ip, 3er isn’t all too bad, especially considering all but two or three batters were in very very very high leverage situations. It wasn’t the best performance ever, but it was by no means poor.
The problem, though – 5ip, 108 pitches. We may as well have a 6th starter as a reliever.
Furthermore, Gallagher is on Eveland’s turn in Sacto, correct? Does that change? Or was Eveland’s outing short enough that he’ll be able to come back on Wednesday? (I think he’ll be able to come back on Wednesday, for better for worse.)
I don’t get it.
I don’t either.
mikeA wishes to put Holliday in a time machine in order to make him awesome like he was before we rented him.
I understand now.
Me, too.
no, I want to undo the trade, or failing that send a terminator after his mother.
SkyNet gave us Enron and sabermetrics.
“are yu Sarah Holliday?”
Yeah I never was a supporter of the trade. But Gameday shows his ab’s to be horrible and the radio is doing nothing to make me think otherwise.
