Game Thread- Uh… “Josh Day”

A’s going for their first home win of the season. Checking the lineups this year never fails to raise my blood pressure. First start for Landon Powell today. A’s will win 4-3.

Thoughts on last night’s game: the defensive metrics weren’t lying about Griffey. He looked like 2007 Bonds out there.

The average fan: my dad was telling me at a birthday dinner last night that he loves the Garciaparra signing because, among other reasons, he is a “much better DH than Cust” since he is a “.300 hitter.”

Outman has a -.8 FIP. Could be AL MVP this year.

Why is there no Gameday Audio for KTRB?

    • mikeA says:

Is anyone else getting an error when trying to listen to the audio?

Geren is a genius. Garciaparra right before Cust=Cust leads off a bunch of innnings.

    “gone a-lookin'” drives me nuts.

CCCT “e-edition”? Has anyone told Kos about this?

    • mikeA says:

you lost me on that one.

      • monkeyball says:

CCCT radio ad was promoting that potential subscribers should “ask about our e-edition,” which I can only imagine is some scam where they try to convince people to subscribe for online-only access.

Kos and Atrios have lately been ridiculing journalists and publishers who have been advocating a move to subscriber firewalls (and trying to charge print ad rates for online ad rates).

“Ironically it was here that Felix established his career high with 12 strikeouts.”

    SPARTA-CUST!

  9. monkeyball says:

Boy would I have rather signed Branyan than Nomar.

Ah, breakfast at 3 in the afternoon.

…and Boston takes the lead. I tried to convince myself that Napoli sucks for awhile, but he’s damn good.

  12. mikeA says:

no gameday video today… Would be nice to see that HR.

  13. mikeA says:

I think Billy signed Cabrera and Nomar solely because he was sick of hearing Vince say “gone a-lookin'”.

Crosby walk off strikeout/wild pitch coming.

so, what’s the verdict on gallagher? dan meyer disease?

    • monkeyball says:

      1. Relying on Chavez’ health for lo these many years has been Beane’s biggest failing

      2. Relying on Crosby and Nomah to back up third is just plain stupid

      3. Ordinarily, that columnist would trigger my scoff reflex, but since his thesis agrees with mine …

Pablo Sandoval is pretty fun to watch.

Is it strange that I find myself checking this site far more than that other site? The fall was hard and fast. I can’t believe how charmless it’s become.

    Gaudin–>minor league deal with SD

Other SD news: I watched the intro or teaser or whatever to the first game of the Giants/Padres series, and Kuiper-the-less-annoying-but-still-annoying informed me that the Padres had “silenced the nay-sayers” with a “big series split” against the “defending division champion Dodgers.”
